WE ARE HIRING (Now Closed) - Trainee Community Centre Manager

Malcolm X is in search of a confident, self-motivated and innovative Community Centre Manager to ensure the management and smooth running of MXCC.

Accountable to: Malcolm X Community Centre staff, Board of Trustees.


Salary: Starting £25,000 p.a.


Hours: 37 hours a week- mainly Monday to Friday, evening and some weekend work will be required. We will be willing to consider flexible working within the Centre opening hours.


The Trainee Community Centre Manager will support the management and smooth running of MX Community Centre. The postholder will undertake a Level 6 Chartered Manager degree apprenticeship with the University of the West of England. You will study for a university degree (Level 6) BA(Hons) Leadership and Management Practice at the University of the West of England on a day release basis for four years.


An important aspect of the job will be supporting with development of the business, making the best use of the facilities available and helping identify new opportunities by means of effective marketing, networking, and innovative solutions.


The Trainee Community Centre Manager will work closely with the Trustees and other staff and local statutory, voluntary, and commercial sector organisations. Also, the Trainee Community Centre Manager will work with colleagues to ensure the Centre is a vibrant, well managed facility that operates for the benefit of its members, local residents and organisations within a sustainable framework.


What will the Trainee Community Centre Manager be doing?

  • Supporting the smooth running of the Centre and supervising its staff in accordance with the parameters of and under the direction set by the Trustees.

  • Supporting colleagues build effective links with local organisations and stakeholders and helping identify further opportunities of partnership working.

  • Assisting with the promotion and marketing of the Centre and the events it hosts

  • Supporting colleagues build effective links with local organisations and stakeholders and helping identify further opportunities of partnership working.

  • Working under direction of Trustees to help develop services and facilities.

  • Helping to encourage local services and activities to be run from the Centre, for example open days, social events, public meetings, advise services and annual general meetings.

  • Supporting the Business Development manager in the development of project proposals and identifying and applying for grants in relation to the role.

  • Assisting with the preparation of reports for and providing administrative support at all Community Centre Trustee and annual general meetings.

Other related duties:

  • The post holder will also undertake such additional duties as they develop in both the role and their apprenticeship programme.


What training will the Trainee Community Centre Manager receive and what qualification will they achieve at the end?


You will study for a university degree (Level 6) BA(Hons) Leadership and Management Practice at the University of the West of England on a day release basis for four years.


Skills and abilities:

  • A professional attitude and approach.

  • It is important that you are confident in English and Maths.

  • Excellent communication skills- both written and verbal.

  • Customer service skills.

  • Confident, self-motivated, innovative, and able to work under pressure.

  • Able to prioritise work and demands.

  • Able to work collaboratively.

  • Able to work flexible hours when required.

Education and training:

  • Hold a Level 3 qualification: A level (grades A, B, C, D or E)/AS Level/Tech Level/Applied General/Level 3 Awards/Diplomas and Certificates/Level 3 NVQ/Music Grades 6,7 and 8/Advanced Apprenticeship/Access to Higher Education Diploma/International Baccalaureate Diploma/Level 3 ESOL.

  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of Word and Excel, although training in this area will be provided if required.

Other:

  • A strong commitment to community-based services.

  • Confident and capable with a range of software including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Zoom etc.

  • Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Duties must be carried out in compliance with our Equal Opportunities Policy, safeguarding and Health and Safety Policy.
